How did I not know about this? The gorgeous yellow pillow cases are to die for.. they would go perfectly with the mustard Elk throw rug I've been drooling over.. with my charcoal waffle quilt.. ahhhh bliss!

A new item for my wishlist..

I've been on the lookout for a bread bin of all things (yes, im a homewares freak).. and look what I found - This red and beech wood bread bin by Joseph Joseph.. LOVE!

These past few weeks have been really annoying, living out of a suitcase at a friends house. We have been extending our stay, then extending some more, and I feel so terrible - Im tempted to go and stay in a hotel... This week we found out the house is probably another 2 weeks away.. the way we're going, possibly more. So Im feeling a bit down and out.. and what do women do when they are feeling this way? Shop. So I splurged and bought this gorgeous handmade print from Seventy Tree - She has a wonderful blog (another excellent recommendation from Jess)

AND... (naughty) I got my Pantone mugs... meh, I deserve it! I found them on Top3 by Design for only $114 for 6 - Thats by far the cheapest I've seen them. I got Yellow Process C, Cool Grey 10C, Lilac Purple 2583C, Orange O21C, Turquoise 3272C and Pea Green 363C - Cant wait to put them away in my new kitchen cupboards.... when we can finally move in :(

Can I pull this off?

Ok, so my dilemma of the week has been my splashback colour. We had a quote by Darren Turner at Tek Building and Design in Adelaide and although they were unfortunately just too expensive for us at the time, I was very impressed with their work. One kitchen that stood out to me in particular is one they did at Rose Park, which was actually later pictured in Home Beautiful magazine - see article (go guys!). Since seeing this kitchen I have always had the same colour splashback in the back of my head.. olive/army green. What I worry about though is, will it be too dark teamed with my floors? Here are some pics - I'd love to hear your thoughts and suggestions! I'm open to any colour ideas? This house is very warm, with the cork floors and exposed brick, so of course we would need to add a lot of timber and some bright colour.. gosh its hard! If only all of my magazines werent packed away in boxes so I could peruse...

The gorgeous kitchen

I really think the grey/green is classy yet cool

Ahhh drool.. This pic makes me wish I stuck with warmer coloured floors

Gosh, my floors look black in this pic.. maybe it is too much? I need your help!

Yep.. im now coffee/side table obsessed.

OMG look at this beautiful piece of art! Im pretty sure my carpenter boyfriend is going to love this i-beam side table. I love when people create a way to use an unrelated item in a unique practical way.

Coffee table

The time has come to add some colour to our pretty much black and white living area in the new house, and I want a designer colour filled coffee table! Lets be honest, every furniture store in little old Adelaide (other than Ikea of course) is ordinary. I had a look around today and its all the same, white polyurethane two-pak style with frosted glass.. hmmmm.

So buying furniture online is something I have never done before, but Im ready and willing. At the moment on the top of my list is the Usame by Kartel (seen here on Hive). It comes in a few colours, and im thinking red. The only thing putting me off (gosh its annoying) is the flower motif thingo! You can barely notice it in the live pics tho?? Thoughts?

My mum

I havent exactly been little miss creative lately since all my materials are packed up in boxes as I continue to live out of a suitcase until the house is finished (Friday 27th - its been confirmed!) so I dont have a hell of a lot to show off at the moment.. but when I noticed this pic at my parents house today, I just had to share. It has been there for years but I never really appreciated the horridness.. yet gorgeousness of it... My beautiful mother circa 1990.

Love you mum xo

Show and tell

Here is my August wallpaper from Smashing.. pretty mellow for me.. I guess its only for 15 more days tho as I forgot to put up a new one at the beginning of the month!

Wow. I went shopping with mother dearest on the weekend for some new goodies for the house. She spoilt me silly as usual - I promise I told her to stop on several occasions but she cant help herself. She got me a whole assortment of items such as a Smeg microwave, some gorgeous bath sheets from Esprit, a toaster, an amazing set of Scanpan saucepans.. gosh I am a lucky girl. My fave purchase for the day however was something I bought with some cashola my grandpa chipped in (bless!) - an Electrolux Ergorapido Vacuum Cleaner

Oh it it simply gorgeous! I think the fact I didnt even know you could get rechargeable vacuum-dust-buster type devices made it even more exciting! I was ridiculously hyperactively excited - the sales guy must have thought I was a freak! But how amazing is the yellow? It will look awesome running along my new black floorboards... ahhhhhhh...

Pop art

So I really wanted some pop art for my main bathroom. Automatically the cartoony woman-in-distress in primary colours came to mind, but I wasnt sure how to get my hands on a piece. I contemplated even trying to paint one onto a canvas myself... but its all to hard. So I did a quick google search and found a site called All Posters.com and searched for a few things, including Mr Pop Art himself, Andy Warhol, and found a poster of this piece he did called Gun (how original). I really love it.. but what do you think? Its only around 80 bucks and would look awesome above the bath in a white frame.. hmmm....

I have a MASSIVE crush on Clare Bowditch. I was introduced to her and her band, The Feeding Set, by my good friend Luke some 5 years ago. She had a beautiful sound, her songs were all mellow and dreamy - and she is drop dead gorgeous. She has always had long, red hair, but recently had the chop and looks even hotter - plus shes not stick skinny. Anyway, her last album, The Moon Looked On, was a little more upbeat and folky from her previous stuff, and it has been played on high rotation for the past 2 years - Even Dave now loves her.

But today - Clare and her new band, The New Slang, have released a NEW ALBUM - Modern Day Addiction! Her new stuff is very cool. Its almost pop, with some darker hues, and catchy lyrics. I loved her first release Start of War, but L O V E D her second, Bigger than the Money. So here are some of my fave happy snaps of the stunner - and of course a clip! x

My favourite

Quite some time ago I found an article in Inside Out about a store called EDIT. Now as you know I am slightly obsessed with turning old furniture into statement pieces (Ok, so I've only actually ever completed 2 haha) but I absolutely fell IN LOVE with the chair featured in that article. So since then I have followed them closely. I cant remember exactly where I read this but the talent behind this business, Sharyn Storrier Lynehamis, is a stylist who grew tired of never being able to find anything different and quirky for her shoots, hence she began creating pieces herself. Since then, I have had an Edit obsession. I can spot one of their items from a mile away. So when I saw the cover of Home Beautiful this month I automatically recognised the fabric (I bought the zine of course!). Here are a couple of their GORGEOUS items.. One day I will own one of these!

This fabric is gorgeous

The chair that made me fall deeply in love...ha

Sneak peak!

We have started the floors in the new place and I am ever so excited! Here is a sneak peak at some of the rooms! Let me know what you think...

Saturday, August 7, 2010

I was actually excited about packing yesterday - I couldnt wait to organise everything, move all the furniture out of all the rooms and get rid of all the bits and pieces that we keep "just in case".. but after an entire day spent packing all by myself, im bored, tired, frustrated, pissed off.. Nothing has worked out like I planned, I have nothing to put my clothes in, I've run out of boxes, the bins are full, all of our processions are scattered everywhere and I've hit that point where all that's left is the stuff that I didnt know what to do with so I thought I'd leave it til the end.

I need a plan of attack.. and my big thing right now is how the hell do I pack my wine glasses? Do I really have to individually wrap all of them? ARGGGGGHH! Im over it. I need a wine. I want my mama (who is conveniently holidaying in Thailand)...

Hello, hello. Quick update.. Still havent started on the unloved chair as I have been frantic packing up my house. Found another one (oops!) at the Salvo's today along with this awesome vintage suitcase for 4 bucks to store the boys drum stuff in. So sweet! Especially love the little 'Airport' plaque!

This weekend is going to involve packing, packing, and a bit more packing.. and we are sneaking in a little gig - Laura Marling (with Boy & Bear as support) at the Gov. I simply cannot wait to see her, I've been waiting a while! And a Saturday night gig in Adelaide? Who could deny!?

Sorry to keep carrying on about my god damn bathroom...

But when I stumble upon pictures like this bathroom on Danish site Bolig I feel all warm and fuzzy inside and realise that I have totally made the right decision for my bathing areas - Its just way too cool for any old ordinary Adelaidian to understand!

On repeat

Ahh I cant get this song out of my head.. you know when you love a song so much that you listen to it over and over and over and over and then just one more time? This is that song for me at the moment!
